On Sunday Nov 7, 2010 Got Vape joined with thousands of walkers and volunteers for the Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk 2010 in Century City, Ca. This Memory Walk is the nation's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer care, support and research.
Alzheimer's is a disease that affects more than 5 million Americans and over 26 million worldwide. The disease was first discovered in 1906 by Dr. Alois Alzheimer who found dense plaque deposits and twisted bands of fibers in the nerve cells of the brain.
In the 1960s scientists discovered a link between cognitive decline and the number of plaque and tangles in the brain. In the past decade of research, progress has been made to identify the genes that cause the disease, but they do not fully explain its cause. Drugs have been developed to treat the symptoms, but not the disorder.
The Memory Walk is a community event that joins friends, families, coworkers and petsin a walk to end Alzheimer's. The event includes a 5K walk, health and wellness expo, entertainment and food. Got Vape was there with our health brochures, lanyards, stickers and walk together with the thousands that came out for a great cause.
Got Vape senses the importance of raising awareness about Alzheimer's since there were 454,000 new cases reported this year alone. As of today Alzheimer is incurable, but together we can keep the progression towards a world without the disease.
Since 1989, Memory Walk has raised over $300 million for the cause. Walkers this year have raised $678,645 in donations that will aid the Alzheimer's Association serve those living with Alzheimer every day. For more information Call or Email Brian Welch at (323) 930-6228 or brian.welch@alz.org
