Got Vape @ KROQ Weenie Roast Featuring Metallica
By Kahinano Donlin
Irvine, Ca - The Got Vape Crew rolled out to the annual KROQ Weenie Roast at the Verizon Amphitheatre in Orange County on Saturday May, 17th.
The sold-out show featured many talented artists like Pennywise & The Offspring, but the highlight of the event was definitely Metallica.
We arrived at the show mid afternoon around 3pm. The Got Vape Van was full of promo material for the event.
As soon as the van was parked, students showed up asking for some Got Vape Stickers. After we hooked them up they were even more receptive towards our Got Vape Health Brochures that outline the Benefits of Vaporization.
After the parking lot promotion ended, it was time to check out the show.
Got Vape was able to have one of our affiliate photographers, Kevin Estrada, posted by the stage to get the best pictures of all the action.
Loyal fans battled the intense heat throughout the day, but with all of the talent playing, nobody seemed to mind. I think one fan, Erica Castro summed up the event perfectly.
“I would wait in the sun for a week with no water just to see Metallica,” she said with a big smile.
“All of the bands are great, but I’ve been waiting for 3 years to see Metallica live, it’s unreal that I’m going to see them here at Weenie Roast.”
The Verizon Amphitheatre houses around 17,000 people at full capacity, so the Got Vape Crew was able to spread the educational health message of Vaporization to tons new fans.
When the sun started to set, we could see the energy rise to another level. I swear, almost all of the fans made it through the day and they were still parting in anticipation of rock legends, Metallica.
They launched into a near two-hour set heavy on their classic '80s material. It was just what the fans wanted.
We could see fans of all ages rocking out to these metal icons. Metallica fired away with a rendition of "Creeping Death." The crowd chanted the chorus for over a minute, leaving the band members with a huge grin throughout the set.
According to a lifelong fan, Amy Wong, “James Hetfield's voice has never sounded so strong. Combined with Kirk Hammett’s ripped solos and Robert Trujillo’s energy on the bass, this is one of the best shows I’ve ever been to.”
She had also had to mention, “Most importantly Lars Ulrich, pounded away on the drums taking the songs to new heights.”
After an hour into the set, Right before "Fuel," Hetfield yelled, "Irvine, Metallica is with you. Are you with us?" The audience roared, and the band witnessed the crowd forming 3 different mosh pits to match the intensity of the band.
We saw some fans swinging around the Got Vape Lanyards during the performance. They were truly enjoying the moment. After "One" and "Enter Sandman" closed the set, the band returned to Kill 'Em All with a fiery "Seek and Destroy."
