Cannabis: Origins
Cannabis is thought to be originally cultivated in
north-east Asia. From there cannabis was thought to
have traveled down on the spice trade to the African
continent.
Cannabis eventually spread to India, Europe and
finally the Americas. Evidence of cannabis in early
societies ranging back as early as 5 bc.
Cannabis: Religious Role
Cannabis has played a role in many religious groups.
Cannabis was used by the mystical Islamic order of
Sufis and Dervishes. Cannabis referred to as Ganja
is also used by the Rastafarians in Jamaica.
Cannabis's psychotropic effects are the primary
reasons why these cultures use cannabis as part
of their beliefs and practices.
Cannabis: Research
Research on the effects of cannabis, has never proved
to definitively cause any harm. There has been wide
speculation that cannabis is thought to cause many
health problems.
Cannabis is thought to cause these issues by undocumented
inflammatory research with a slant towards anti-cannabis
rhetoric. Cannabis is and remains to be illegal
in the USA.
