5 Most Commonly Made, and Broken, New Year's Resolutions for 2018

It’s the same thing every year, we hype ourselves up and tell ourselves it’s a new year so it’s a new us. We then make a million new year resolutions that last a week at best. Don’t worry though, you’re not alone. Here’s a list of the most commonly made…. and broken New Year’s resolutions.

5. Spend More Time with Family

We live in such a fast-paced time that we sometimes lose sight of what’s most important, family. So, we vow that this year will be the year we reconnect with our family. A couple weeks in and you realize that you’ve already had your fill and need your space, or the office is busier than ever and you’re just too tired to play with your kids. Although the intent was pure this resolution doesn’t seem to be very realistic for that long. That doesn’t mean you should give up all together. Make some time at least once a week where the family shuts off all electronic devices and spends quality time together. You might not be able to spend 24/7 with them, but at least the quality time will go up.

4. Travel

Ok, let’s be honest, who doesn’t want to travel more? A New Year means it’s time to get out and explore and experience new cultures. This will finally be the year you travel to Paris and see the Eiffel Tower, or travel to Russia and cross see the FIFA World Cup live off your bucket list. All of this would be great, but then reality sets in and your vape just broke so it’s time to buy a new one because there’s no way you can be without one and then all e-liquid is 50% off so of course you have to stock up. Then all your bills, rent, day care and unforeseen expenses arise and we realize there’s no money left to see anything outside of 100 miles from where you live.

3. Quit/Drink Less

We’ve all been to the point where we have announced to the masses that I will never drink again after a night of one too many whiskey sours, but swearing off it for New Years is a completely different goal. This is why so many people make a pact and resolution to give up the hard stuff for good, or cut back to only a couple times a month. You’re doing so well and then your friends want to get together for a night out, one thing leads to another and before you know it you’re 5 beers deep. Well last longer than last year so that’s a positive, right?

2. Lose Weight/ Exercise

This counts for roughly 25% of all the resolutions made every year. Can you guess how long the majority of the people last with this resolution? So, you get that new gym membership and genuinely enjoy going… for a week. Then it’s just too busy, the machines are always taken and you can’t find the time to go anymore. Not to mention after just a few weeks that delicious burger and fries start taunting you around every corner. You can now see why not many last with this resolution.

1. Quit Smoking

We all know the effects that come with smoking from our health, to appearance, finances, and even our personal life. We all realize these, which is why this is the most made resolution heading into a New Year. Sadly, only about 10% of those who made this resolution are able to kick the bad habit for good. If you’re trying to put out your last cigarette bud try some of the tactics that many say have them stop like drinking decaf coffee, drinking tea, staying active with exercise or even taking up vaping.
