Bowls

Match the joint on the piece, usually 14mm or 18mm, and the opposite gender to the downstem. A 14mm male bowl fits a 14mm female joint.

Measure the inside diameter of the opening. Roughly 14mm is about the width of a pencil, 18mm noticeably wider. Comparing against the existing bowl is more reliable.

Some do. A screen stops ash and small pieces pulling into the water, which keeps the piece cleaner for longer. Loose screens are inexpensive and drop straight in.

It gives you something to hold that is not glowing hot. Bowls without one need lifting by the rim, which gets uncomfortable quickly.

Shallow bowls suit one person and stay fresher. Deep bowls hold more for a group but are harder to clear evenly and waste material if left burning.

Only if the joint matches and the rig is not set up for concentrate. Most dab rigs take a banger instead, and a bowl in one is unusual rather than impossible.

Soak in isopropyl with coarse salt and rinse. Because it is small and removable it is the easiest part to clean and the one that most affects taste.

Glass tastes cleaner and is standard. Silicone will not shatter when dropped, which matters given the bowl is the piece most often dropped.
