While it almost goes without saying, dabbing leaves behind sticky reclaim and vapor residue that builds up quickly when left unattended. As you draw air through the carb cap, warm vapor inevitably coats the underside and internal channels of the glass.

Without regular maintenance, even the most expensive carb caps start to underperform. Over time, this thick reclaim restricts airflow, rendering the cap useless and ruining your expensive concentrates with sub optimal performance.

In general, a dirty carb cap leads to:

In general, we recommend that you give the underside of the carb cap a quick wipe with an ISO dampened swab at the end of your daily session while the reclaim is still slightly warm and not stuck on. 

For moderate to heavy dabbing, toss the cap into a deep soak every couple of weeks to ensure sticky buildup doesn't accumulate inside the narrow internal air paths. However, if you notice your pearls aren't spinning or the cap is sticking to the banger, go straight for a deep clean.

With consistent wipe downs, you can very easily keep your carb cap operating at 100% without having to do deep cleans often. It all comes down to your own routine preferences. 

Cleaning Tools for a Carb Cap

You don’t need anything complicated to clean your carb cap, but there are a few essentials that make achieving crystal clear results quick and effortless.

Essential cleaning tools for carb cap maintenance:

• Isopropyl alcohol 
  
• Cotton swabs
  
• Paper towels or a cloth
  
• Warm running water
  
• A small glass dish or sealable plastic bag (for soaking)

Step 1: Let It Cool Completely

Start by allowing your carb cap to cool down entirely after your session. Never attempt to clean a hot carb cap, as sudden temperature changes (thermal shock) will cause glass or quartz to instantly fracture or shatter.

Instead, set your cap on a silicone mat or safe tray and let it return to room temperature. This usually takes about 10 to 15 minutes. In the meantime, put your feet up, have a snack, and prepare the rest of your cleaning supplies.

Step 2: The Isopropyl Alcohol Soak

Place your carb cap into a small glass dish or a heavy duty sealable zip lock plastic bag with enough room to be fully submerged. Then carefully pour in enough isopropyl alcohol to cover the carb cap entirely. 

The isopropyl alcohol acts as a powerful solvent that breaks down sticky reclaim bonds without requiring you to aggressively scrape the glass. This proves to be the kryptonite of old concentrate stains, prepping them for easy removal post soak. 

Let the carb cap sit undisturbed for 30 to 60 minutes, as the isopropyl needs time to get to work. For the dirties of carb caps, we recommend letting the soak over night for the best results. 

Step 3: Scrub Your Carb Cap

After the soak, carefully remove the carb cap from the ISO bath and place it on a soft cloth / paper towel. Make sure to have a firm grip, as isopropyl alcohol can leave your carb cap slippery after a prolonged soak. 

Now look over your carb cap and check for any remaining stains / gunk. Then take a q-tip to scrub them away, spot cleaning these areas until they are completely free of any material leftovers. 

Make sure to gently thread through the directional airflow nozzles, spinner channels, and any crevices where dark reclaim is still clinging. The softened oil should slide right off the glass surface, restoring perfect airflow.

Step 4: Rinse Thoroughly With Warm Water

With everything now cleaned up, you can hold your carb cap securely under a faucet running warm tap water. Flush the water directly through the airflow holes for about a minute to wash away all traces of loosened reclaim and alcohol solution.

Got Vape Crew Safety Tip: Always use warm water. Rinsing a glass cap that has been sitting in room-temperature liquid under freezing cold water can trigger thermal stress. Also, grip it tightly! Glass covered in dissolved reclaim and ISO is incredibly slippery.

Step 5: Air-Dry Completely

Once you’ve rinsed the cap, you MUST leave ample time for it to dry COMPLETELY before your next session.

There’s no rushing this step. If water remains inside the narrow airflow channels when you place it over a hot banger, it can drip down into your boiling oil, causing aggressive sizzling and dangerous hot oil splatter.

Set the cap on a clean paper towel in a well-ventilated area and let it air dry for at least 30 minutes until zero moisture remains.
